Reflections

Are you a PASSIONATE LEARNER who enjoys teaching others?

Are you EAGER to DO JUSTICE and WORK FOR RECONCILIATION to make the world a little more peaceful?

Are you ENTHUSIASTIC in SHARNG THE STORY OF GOD'S GRACE AND POWER in your life?

Do you  SEE GOD in all persons especially, the poor, the disenfranchised, the marginal, the "nobodies" of our communities?

WE invite………

you to consider the diaconate!

The Diaconate in the Diocese of Maryland is an order of ordained persons serving as Itinerant Servant Leaders.

Deacons are ordained to a separate, distinct and equal order of ministry under the direct authority of the Bishop:

to interpret to the Church the needs, concerns and hopes of the world...

to engage all the baptized in service to the needy, the weak, the sick and the lonely...

to empower all the baptized to bring the ministry of Christ to the world.

We invite everyone to join the community of deacons in theological reflection. On Engaging the Diakonia of All Believers.

Young adults interested in diaconal ministry are invited to participate in The Seven. The Seven is a part-time, 10-month hands-on spiritual and educational experience for young adults (18-30 years old) who want to engage in meaningful work and reflection in their communities while discerning their own vocations, in mentored relationships with Episcopal deacons.

"The ministry of deacons is to remind us of the hurts and needs of the world around us.
We ordain them in order to urge us and nag us to get involved in healing those hurts and needs,
to build and rebuild communities around us." ++Katharine Jefferts Schori
